Pakistan’s LNG Demand Could Rebound as Global Gas Market Stabilizes
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan could see a recovery in liquefied natural gas demand if international prices stabilize and additional supplies become available, according to industry executives attending the Gastech conference.
The disruption caused by the conflict involving the United States and Iran has severely affected LNG flows through the Strait of Hormuz. Global LNG supplies have been reduced while Asian spot prices have climbed sharply from pre-conflict levels.
Pakistan remains sensitive to international gas prices because affordability plays a major role in determining how much LNG the country can import. Industry officials said demand exists across Pakistan’s energy system, but consumers remain highly price-conscious.
The development could become significant for Pakistan’s electricity and industrial sectors. Greater availability of competitively priced LNG could help reduce pressure on alternative fuels while supporting energy security.
