Oil Prices Surge as Middle East Conflict Threatens Global Energy Supply

Global energy markets are facing renewed pressure as escalating conflict around Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the Strait of Hormuz threatens critical oil and shipping routes.

Gulf stock markets fell on Tuesday following renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, while concerns over energy infrastructure and shipping disruptions pushed investors toward safer assets. Reuters reported that Saudi Arabia’s benchmark index fell 0.9%, while Dubai’s market declined 0.8%.

The Strait of Hormuz is particularly important because a significant share of the world’s oil exports normally passes through the waterway. Any prolonged disruption could increase transportation costs and push fuel prices higher around the world.

For consumers, the biggest concern is the potential knock-on effect on petrol, diesel, food transportation and electricity costs.
