Russia and Ukraine Continue Energy Strikes Despite Trump’s Proposed Truce
KYIV: Russia and Ukraine have continued attacks against energy-related targets despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement that both sides had agreed to halt such strikes.
Russia launched around 200 drones overnight, damaging petrol stations in Kyiv and infrastructure elsewhere, while Ukraine responded with attacks on a Russian oil refinery and drone-production facilities.
The continued attacks highlight the difficulty of translating diplomatic announcements into an effective ceasefire on the ground. Ukraine has said it wants credible security guarantees from its allies before stopping retaliatory strikes.
The conflict is also creating wider economic concerns. Damage to energy infrastructure and disruptions to fuel supplies are contributing to pressure on global energy markets at a time when oil prices are already elevated because of instability in the Middle East.
